Post-2020 GAIN Power Conference

People power progressive politics. Without these dedicated staff, we would not be able to run issue advocacy or candidate campaigns. They are the people behind the ideas, the minds behind the polling, the creativity behind the ads and mail pieces, the labor behind the outreach. This conference seeks to honor and support these workers.

For time immemorial, campaigns — issue and candidate — have benefited from the labor of a large and dedicated group of people who hope to impact positive change in this country. They move from job to job, often for low pay, little ongoing professional development, short-terms, and having to endure unemployment on a regular basis while they wait for their next opportunity. The result of this is that many amazing talents go unseen and undeveloped, and people who could move mountains end up moving on to other “more stable” careers. What we often do not talk about is that the people most likely to leave are those in marginalized communities because they are least likely to be able to endure the work deserts or don’t have the connections to get the coveted positions. While this conference will not solve all of this – what we hope to do is to care for and cater to these professionals in transition. When this particular group of professionals moves on from the 2020 election, they are moving into the most difficult economy of our lifetimes, compounded by a global pandemic.

It is time that we value and develop the people who do the work as much as we value the wins they make possible.
