Bio

My first involvement with the political process was in 2014 as a volunteer with the Michelle Nunn and Jason Carter campaigns. I immigrated to Georgia 10 years earlier with my family and, as a new citizen of the United States, I was ready to make a change in my community.  Throughout my time in college, I continued to explore and participate in local movements that sought to improve the conditions of my Latino immigrant community. This included organizing canvassing and phone banking for multiple Democratic candidates, hosting informative panels on the struggles of DACA students, and registering voters. Since then, I have elevated my leadership capacity by managing the largest polling location in Gwinnett County during the 2020 election season. This experience opened my eyes to the grave necessity of political participation from my generation. I then went on to intern for the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia and the Georgia Association for Latino Elected Officials. In those positions, I developed my skills in communications and policy research while gaining a perspective of the political landscape. More recently, I entered the field of fundraising for political non-profit organizations. My role as fundraising director with The Outreach Team enabled me to lead a team of over 30 individuals in spreading awareness and raising capital for wonderful causes such as abortion rights, environmental issues, and refugee aid.

Impact

I believe that the best way to demonstrate the worth of an ideology is to lead by example. It is for this reason that I try to live my values every day. Inequality between sexes, races, sexuality, etc. do not only exist as abstract concepts that broadly affect society; they exist in the microcosms that are our personal interactions, our work environment, and the way we talk about each other. In all of my roles, I try to prioritize the consistency of my values. That means making sure each and every voice is heard when decisions are being made. It means taking an active interest in the cultures around us and learning empathy. My proudest achievements have been inspired and facilitated by this mantra: registering over 27,000 voters in southern Georgia in time to elect Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, helping defeat harmful policies such as loose standards for no-knock warrants, and helping raise over a million dollars in donations towards organizations fighting the good fight.

Mission

I see myself growing in both ability and passion in the upcoming years. I aspire to attain a law degree that will allow me to more directly engage and change with policies that our government enacts. I want to be able to reflect on my legacy and say that I have contributed to conducive conversation with those that disagree with me. I want to inspire those that do agree with me to become more involved and to take the responsibility of change into their own hands. At the end of the day the end goals of activism should be results. This means that we must do everything we can within the current system to shine a light on injustices that affect us all. My personal background as a first generation immigrant gives me insight and motivation that others may not have access to. It is my job to share my story and to remove the obstacles that my family and community had to overcome in order to achieve the American Dream.
