In 2014 I established Deaf Progressives United, a discussion forum for deaf and hard of hearing people interested in current events, progressive values and the people who promote and implement them. We started as the only such group in social media. In the 10 years since, several other progressive political groups have emerged and grown, creating a solid ecosystem of support for deaf progressives around the USA. We’re doing what we can in our community and aim to share our impact as broadly as possible.

Deaf Progressives United grew entirely organically without any advertising and has attained 1700 members, while the aggregate membership of similar groups has reached about 5000. Given the small size of the deaf community, this represents the leading edge – people who are actively engaged on a daily basis with reality, able to provide guidance to others who are not as well informed and refute obvious falsehoods. We can’t completely stop the tsunami of MAGA propaganda, but we can give discerning people an alternative view and relevant resources to explore.
