Career Advice Webinar with Carrie Pugh

Posted by

If you weren’t able to catch our interview with Senior Director of Campaigns and Elections at the National Education Association (NEA) Carrie Pugh, you can watch the recording on our YouTube channel.

Carrie was very personable and transparent as she related her professional journey to our users. Her career path in politics began with the Chinese Mutual Aid Association. From social services, she shifted to public policy, which led to working her first campaign for Lisa Madigan’s State Senate race. Since then, she became interested in education, emphasizing her belief in education as a force for equity. As she advised our users, her energy and enthusiasm for her work shined through.

As Carrie spoke on her work at the NEA, she shared the many ways she uses her position to uplift people, particularly recognizing experiences that historically have not been privileged in the workplace. We touched on how this applies to women, people of color, working mothers, and people of different ages and professional backgrounds. She was also open about the challenges and setbacks she has faced, particularly her bouts of imposter syndrome, followed by helpful insights and encouragement for our users.

It was an insightful conversation that spanned many relevant topics that aimed to encourage those interested in advocacy to channel their power to change the systems around us.
